Girl Scout Silver Award
The Girl Scout Silver Award represents a girl’s accomplishments in Girl Scouting and her community as she grows and works to improve her life and the lives of others.
The requirements of the Girl Scout Silver Award help girls build skills, develop a sense of community, gain leadership skills, and implement a Take Action project. The Girl Scout Silver Award project is can be planned after completing the prerequisite of a level appropriate journey. Girls can complete the project as an individual or as a team for four or less.
The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest achievement for a Girl Scout Cadette. It is symbolic of a Take Action project completed within the community. Through implementation of the project girls build skills in goal setting, budgeting, public speaking, and leadership.
Step 1: Attend a Silver Award Workshop.
Step 2: Complete a Cadette Journey. Your options are:
Step 3: Identify issues you care about.
Step 4: Build your Girl Scout Silver Award Team or decide to go solo.
Teams can be no more than four members. Each girl on a team needs to be responsible for her own 50 hours and have a unique leadership component within the project.
Step 5: Explore your community.
Identify your community and map its needs and resources.
Step 6: Pick your Take Action Project.
Find an issue that is important to you and determine the root cause and narrow your focus. Start planning!
Step 7: Complete a proposal and mail it.
Make sure your advisor and mentor have signed the proposal.
Step 8: Receive approval from Council.
This takes approximately 4 weeks. You’ll receive an e-mail with your project status.
Step 9: Put your plan in motion.
Once your plan has been approved, TAKE ACTION!
Step 10: Submit a final report to the council.
Include pictures, news articles, flyers and any other supporting materials.
Step 11: Reflect, share your story and celebrate.
All awardees are honored each spring in a council sponsored ceremony. Look for your invitation in the spring.
Please note that starting October 1, 2014, Cadettes will no longer submit Silver Award proposals or final reports online. Girls should mail the original with advisor and mentor signatures to Girl Awards, 40 Brace Road, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.
