1. What is the name and purpose of your Gold Award project?
My Gold Award is called Project Stress Less. My goal was to educate my community about the dangers of stress and give my peers techniques to better manage their stress.
2. What sustainable impact does your Gold Award project have on the community?
I initiated the Stress Less club at my high school in order to educate other students about stress and teach them ways to deal with their stress. Each month, I brought in a professional to teach my club members a skill such as yoga, painting, meditation, or food and nutrition. Once I graduate this year, I will hand over the club to another member who will hopefully continue what I started. The second part of my Gold Award was the annual suicide prevention walk I began in my community in partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. If I can no longer be the Walk Chair, someone else will take over the position for me.
3. What insights/takeaway did you gain from your project?
I learned that I am a good leader and public speaker. I am passionate about advocacy and hearing others' stories as well as sharing my own. I work well with others and am good at problem-solving, and I am confident interacting with my elders.
4. Anything else you'd like to share?
Earning my Gold Award made me feel so accomplished and strong. I'm so glad I put in the time and effort to complete my project!
