East Brunswick Girl Becomes Girl Scout After Helping Others Handle Stress

Brooklyn (2)

Hello, my name is Brooklyn. I am a 4th grader at Warnsdorfer Elementary School in East Brunswick, and a TAG4 student. For TAG, we created a Passion Project using the six P's by Andy McNair. The name of my project is Squish Out the Stress.

I chose this project because I really do not like people being judgmental and I love doing fundraisers with the student council. So I put the two together and came up with the idea of creating stress balls, made out of socks and rice, to help students deal with their stress and reaction to being judged. As a member of student council, I presented my idea to my peers and they agreed to help me make and sell the stress balls. The PTA also agreed to let us sell them at our school store every month.

The stress balls were a big success and we raised $62 to donate to the Girl Scouts of Central & Southern NJ. I chose Girl Scouts as my charity because of their anti-bullying programs.

I really enjoyed my experience and I learned a lot about myself, including that I love crafting, I am comfortable with public speaking, and that I now want to join the Girl Scouts!
