Cookie Booths

We know that cookie booths will look different in 2021 and, therefore, how we run cookie booths must look a little different to support it. Safety will always be at the forefront of these decisions.

GSCSNJ will support 2021 Booths if community safety guidance and conditions allow. Check the Cookie Dial on  Cookie Homebase to quickly reference the current safety guidance.

Troops have a range of booth-hosting options—from virtual to differing levels of in-person—to support a comfortable, safe experience for all girls.

Follow All Safety Guidelines

Each type of Cookie Booth may have its own unique guidelines. Please check sections below for more information on each type.

For the most up to date cookie booth participation options, visit Cookie Homebase.
Contactless Payments

GSCSNJ highly encourages girls and troops to only accept contactless payments. Girls/troops can do this using Smart Cookies on a mobile device.

How It Works:

Troops can create their own QR code using their unique booth link in Smart Cookies. Girls will present this code to customers who then scan with their mobile device instantly pulling up the troop's store. The customer can now choose, order, and pay for their cookies—all within Smart Cookies.

PLUS: There are no fees!

Contactless Cookie Delivery

Girls and volunteers will need to provide contactless cookie delivery options to their customers whether through Direct Ship or asking customers to pick up their own boxes at an outdoor cookie booth.

  • A majority of merchants require Cookie Booths to be outdoors. Due to the season, some may change their protocols based on weather conditions. Indoor Cookie Booths can be considered at the troop volunteer’s discretion, providing merchant and Council Cookie COVID Guidelines are followed and girl safety remains the top priority.
  • Face coverings should be worn at all times.
  • You should have a supply of hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, and gloves available.
  • GSCSNJ is strongly encouraging troops to use the Smart Cookies Credit Card Processing function, whenever possible, for contactless transactions. Remember - council will be paying ALL credit card transaction fees for the 2021 Cookie Program.
  • If you choose to accept cash from customers, make sure it’s under adult supervision and secured at all times. Arrange for cash to be removed from the site periodically. When you do travel with money, have someone accompany you to your vehicle and/or the bank. Remember to lock car doors and hide cookies/cash from plain sight.
  • Ensure that you have adequate space at the booth to allow for social distancing and safe passage by pedestrians and cars.
  • Warm layers of clothing– each girl should bring a hat and gloves and dress for the weather.
  • Wear the Girl Scout uniform, Membership Pin, or other Girl Scout branded clothing.

Your troop will be able to share your virtual cookie booth link to friends and family using social media, text, email, or web meetings (like a Facebook Live event). Your troops can share a link just for direct ship OR for curbside pickup. Troops can announce and share the date, time, and location of their curbside pickup and customers can order, pay online, and then pick up cookies, while staying in their vehicle. Troops have orders ahead of time so they know what to bring.

  • Ideally held in parking lots that can accommodate an easy flow of traffic - first in, first out. Think fast-food drive-thru or bank on a Sunday!
  • Drive-Thru Booths are coordinated by the Service Unit Cookie Booth Coordinator so that it can be added to Smart Cookies, GSUSA's Cookie Finder link, and added to SU Booth lottery.
  • Drive-Thru Booths should have traffic cones and signs directing traffic and adhere to the COVID-19 Cookie Safety Guidelines.
  • 2 adults/2 girls max at each station

Virtual Cookie Booth Guide (PDF)

A step-by-step guide for volunteers, girls, and families! Virtual booths—hosted on social media—give girls a way to achieve their sales goals and help others in their community from home. In fact, girls may find this allows them to discover new ways to take the lead in their cookie business and stay connected through virtual means.

  • A troop secured Virtual Booth event allows customers to order cookies via the troop link and pay via credit card for either Direct Ship OR in advance of a pick-up event (see Drive-Thru Booth in dropdown above). This pick-up event will be held at a designated location and pre-determined date/time before the Virtual Booth begins.
  • Easy. Safe. Touchless transactions.
  • All Virtual Booth pick-up date, time, and locations must be reported to the Service Unit Cookie Booth Coordinator.
  • If your troop is comfortable with this level of in-person sales, consider making your pick-up date/time correspond with an additional Drive-Thru Booth! Customers that have already purchased can pick-up their cookies and new customers can drive up and purchase on the spot.
GSUSA Cookie Finder
GSUSA Cookie Finder (Direct Ship) Troop Sales

All troops participating in the 2021 Cookie Season will be added to the GSUSA Cookie Finder webpage. The Cookie Finder displays nearby cookie booths, and from February 1 to March 31, customers who visit this site will also see nearby troops and be able to purchase cookies from them for “Direct Ship” or donation. At the end of the sale, volunteers will transfer these sales to participating girls.
