The 2021 Cookie Program is from January 14 - April 18

COVID Guidelines and Processes

The sale types that could require interaction with customers outside of your household (hybrid and in-person) are allowed with the understanding that Cookie COVID-19 Guidelines must be met and can change at any time during the 2021 Cookie Program.

COVID Guidelines

During the 2021 Girl Scout Cookie Program, the safety of our girls, volunteers, and families is our top priority. The pandemic continues to affect every decision we make regarding this cookie season, and we are working diligently to adapt processes and procedures to ensure girls have an amazing Cookie Program experience while staying safe.

The tools and resources below will allow you to select the level of participation and contact that’s comfortable for your family. Throughout all phases of the Cookie Program, we are committed to minimizing contact and will be updating the GSCSNJ COVID-19 page regularly to enable you to have a successful program!

Check back often to stay up to date. Cookie COVID Guidelines last updated Friday, January 8, 2021.

Ways to Sell

GSCSNJ understands that every family has their own level of comfort when it comes to participating in the Girl Scout Cookie Program in the traditional, in-person sense. View the different ways your girl can participate in the 2021 Cookie Sale and find a way (or maybe a combination of ways!) that works best for your family.

Virtual

We encourage girls to expand their horizons to become online entrepreneurs! Girls can:

  • Set up their Smart Cookies online account for both Direct Ship orders
    • Pro tip: Customers can pay online for girl delivery, too—which makes a contactless porch drop super easy!
  • Send e-cards, post their unique cookie sales link on social media, or send it by text or email

To encourage online sales this year:

  1. There will be no credit card fees for troops that use the Smart Cookies credit card feature.
  2. Customers will receive half-price shipping  for purchases of 6-12 boxes of cookies through Smart Cookies Direct Ship.
  3. The Cookie Program begins January 14. If your girl has not yet received her registration email, please contact Customer Care at customercare@gscsnj.org. That’s when they can set up their online account, get ready to send emails to family & friends, and share their cookie link on social media.

Cookie Booths are another sales option available for troops and girls. We are excited to announce Virtual, Hybrid, and In-Person Cookie Booth options this year that will abide by GSCSNJ Cookie COVID-19 Safety Guidelines.

Hybrid

When the Cookie Program begins on January 14, girls can begin selling to cookie customers and complete contactless payments via Smart Cookies. When placing their online order, customers can decide if they'd like their cookies shipped to them or delivered by the Girl Scout.

With the hybrid participation option, girls can take cookie orders via Smart Cookies and deliver the orders with contactless drop off - similar to food delivery services like GrubHub!

Cookie Booths are another sales option available for troops and girls. We are excited to announce Virtual, Hybrid, and In-Person Cookie Booth options this year that will abide by GSCSNJ Cookie COVID-19 Safety Guidelines.

In-Person

With the in-person participation option, girls will load up their wagon or sled with cookie inventory, take in-person contactless payment using Smart Cookies' free credit card processing, and give cookies to customers on the spot. This option also includes in-person cookie booths.

Cookie Booths are another sales option available for troops and girls. We are excited to announce Virtual, Hybrid, and In-Person Cookie Booth options this year that will abide by GSCSNJ Cookie COVID-19 Safety Guidelines.

Cookie Marketing Materials

Creating QR Codes

QR Codes are a great way to share links to your individual or troop Digital Cookie Storefront, contact-free! If you've never made a QR Code before, or you want to make one that's on-brand for Girl Scouts, follow the directions below!

Building the QR Code

Copy your Smart cookie Sales Link (either individual Girl or Troop) and open your QR Code generator app! GSCSNJ uses QR Code Monkey to build our branded QR Codes

Note that the QR Code preview in QR Code Monkey doesn’t update automatically every time you change a setting. To preview the changes you’ve made, select the green Create QR Code button under the preview image.

Enter Content
This is where you’ll paste your Digital Cookie URL.

Set Colors
For the foreground color, select Single Color (which should be auto-selected) and Custom Eye Color. The Single Color should be #00AE58, and both Eye Color boxes should be #000000. The background color should be #FFFFFF.

Customize Design
Finally, you’ll design the style of the QR code.

  • Body Shape: Select the first box on the top row
  • Eye Frame Shape: Select the first option (square)
  • Eye Ball Shape: Select the first option (solid square)

This will give you a traditional QR Code look that customers will easily recognize. Feel free to get creative with the design and make it your own!

Exporting the QR Code
Once you’ve selected all of the settings above, preview the QR Code by clicking the green Create QR Code button under the preview. If it looks right, select the size you need from the slider (1000px by 1000px is the default and should be fine in most instances), then click Download PNG.

Now you can print your QR Code and use it as needed! You can print out a sheet of your QR Code, cut them out, and tape them to flyers, door hangers, etc.

QR CODE PRO TIPS:
  • Always test your QR Code to ensure it works correctly before providing it to customers
  • We recommend adding a note to any printed pieces that say something along the lines of "Scan this with your phone's camera to buy Girl Scout Cookies online!" so those who aren't familiar with QR Codes know what to do.

Workplace/Cookie Booth Signs

Sell cookies in your network! Girls can ask permission from their caregiver's workplace to set up an order station. Make sure this is not accessible to the general public, but just for the caregiver's coworkers or people they know to place their orders. This is a great option for contactless orders!

Cookie Share Resources

By donating cookies, cookie customers can double their giving efforts by supporting Girl Scouts and donating to others in need at the same time. It's a win-win! Plus, girls learn about philanthropy and the power of giving back to their local communities. So, that's a win-win-win. Even better!

Cookie Program Talking Points

If you’re approached with questions or concerns while you are selling cookies, we want to make it easier for you to know what to say. If applicable, share the points below:

  • All cookie money stays local.
  • Share what your Girl Scout plans to do with her cookie earnings! (Trips, programs, service projects, camp, etc.)
  • The Cookie Program is about the Girl Scouts who are learning skills and earning money for their troops. The council proceeds are reinvested into the girls and troops through financial assistance, subsidizing camp fees, and providing programming.
  • Neither my local Girl Scout council nor the national office has a relationship with Planned Parenthood.
  • Let’s keep adult conversations away from girls. Those with additional questions can check out our Support Girls' Success, or reach out to the council for more information.
  • Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) has worked with and continues to work with, our cookie bakers to increase the transparency and sustainability of our production lines and ingredient sourcing. If certain suppliers are not following safety and ethical standards, we rely on our bakers and the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), of which GSUSA is an affiliate member, to take action quickly.
