GSCSNJ has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Smith Family Foundation of NJ to bring the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to 200 girls in Trenton, NJ. Girl Scouts builds G.I.R.L.s (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader) ™, of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. With this grant, the organization will reach under-served focus areas in Trenton.
The grant will help to support the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, which encompasses a variety of fun, yet challenging activities that are design to encourage girls to discover their values and their world, connect with other girls and adults, and take action to make the world a better place. Girls take the lead, empower themselves, and build their own adventure through the four pillars of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience: STEM, Entrepreneurship, Outdoor Experiences, and Life Skills. The purpose of Girl Scouts’ community development initiative is to help girls develop a sense of self, to instill positive values, to teach healthy relationships, and to build problem solving skills in girls – all skills which are useful at any age.
The Smith Family Foundation of NJ was founded by the Smith Family to empower the community, cultivate leaders and transform lives by providing funding and leadership development to Trenton based organizations. This year they made their first one-year grant awards to GSCSNJ and eleven other organizations serving Trenton, NJ. Through grant making, nonprofit professional development, and the creation of a resource room (available for public use on West State Street in Trenton), the Foundation is continuing their mission of empowering the community, cultivating leaders, and transforming lives through their support of the Girl Scouts of Central & Southern NJ.
Girl Scouts of Central and Southern NJ has a commitment to making the Girl Scout Leadership Experience accessible to all girls who wish to take part. The funds awarded by The Smith Family Foundation of NJ will benefit the Trenton community and build 200 more courageous, confident girls.
