In a few short months, women and girls from all across the country will convene in Columbus, Ohio for a very special event!  G.I.R.L. 2017 will draw more than 10,000 of the brightest, toughest and most capable girls and women in the world for an event that only comes once every three years!

G.I.R.L. 2017 is for every girl who wants to stand up, take charge, and change the world, for herself and for all of us. The gathering will offer one-of-a-kind fun, inspiring speakers and enlightening educational opportunities. This will be my second time attending this event.  It truly is amazing to see Girl Scouting take over a city – and make our presence known.  The 2014 event in Salt Lake City was educational, inspirational and fun.  Being there truly sparked passion in me for the collective power of our movement!  I hope that many of you have the opportunity to attend a national gathering at some point during your Girl Scout career.

In addition, National Council Delegates, representing the Girl Scout membership in all 50 states, will convene for the 54th National Council Session.  This meeting provides an opportunity for us to do national business – like elect National Board Members, update our National Bylaws and provide input to the National Board on critical issues for the future of Girl Scouting.  The governance of Girl Scouting is woven from the fabric of each one of us – the nearly 2.0 million members of the Girl Scouts of the USA.

Our elected Council delegation has begun to get organized as we are excited to represent our fellow Girl Scouts from Central and Southern New Jersey.  Please watch for information on ways to provide your input on the issues that will be brought forth in Columbus.

Locally, we’re appreciative for the GSCSNJ members who stepped forward to serve as County Delegate Voting Members for our Council.  You’ll find their names on our website.  Like our National Council Delegates, these men and women represent you in the governance of our Council.  I know they are interested in hearing your ideas and input as to how we can keep Girl Scouting strong.

To quote author Vera Nazarian, “A choir is made up of many voices, including yours and mine. If one by one all go silent then all that will be left are the soloists.  Don’t let a loud few determine the nature of the sound. It makes for poor harmony and diminishes the song.”  As Girl Scout members, we are a powerful chorus and by lending our voices and opinions through the national and local governance systems, we keep our harmony sweet and our song strong!
