Lead like a G.I.R.L. at the 10th Annual Girl Leadership Summit

On November 18, Girl Scouts of Central & Southern NJ will be hosting the G.I.R.L. Leadership Summit from 9 AM to 3 PM at Rutgers University – New Brunswick. Girl Scouts has been leading the way for girls across the country for 105 years, and GSCSNJ is celebrating the 10th anniversary of their innovative, teen-directed leadership program.

Attendees choose workshops designed, created, and led by high school Girl Scouts partnered with a professional. One of the exciting workshop offerings this year includes a political action workshop: Use Your Voice, Take A Stand, led by Girl Scout Madeleine and a female candidate for NJ State Assembly. Another workshop option, Make Your Point, focuses on communicating effectively and is hosted by Girl Scout Teresa and co-facilitated by a female attorney and contributor to CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News. Girls will choose from seven workshops in all.

The event also features a Career Café—an open networking event where girls can meet with local professionals in a variety of careers. GSCSNJ is pleased to welcome over twenty distinguished professionals to this year’s Career Café, including:

·         An Associate Professor of Neuroscience at Rutgers University

·         An owner of a software development company

·         A Psychologist

·         A Hydraulic Engineer at US Army Corps of Engineers

Girls will also hear from a panel of Women Leaders, as well as Girl Scouts who have earned the Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting. Adult workshops include “Raising a G.I.R.L.,” and roundtable discussions about how to support girls along their leadership journeys.

Any Go-Getter, Innovator, Risk-Taker, and Leader in grades 6th through 12th is invited to attend the day full of the Women in Leadership panels and inspiring girl-led workshops. Check in starts at 8:30 AM and registration is required for leadership event. Continental breakfast, hot buffet lunch, and giveaways are included.

Girl Scouts builds Go-getters, Innovators, Risk-Takers, and Leaders of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place through discovering their talents and passions, connecting with their communities, and taking action to positively impact the world.  Although Girl Scouts is known for campfires, crafts, and cookies, the organization has refreshed programming and shifts to a new focus in order to keep up with a changing world.  STEM, entrepreneurship, outdoor experience, and life skills are the core of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience today. The Girl Scout motto is “Be prepared”, and through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and the G.I.R.L. Leadership Summit, girls gain important skills and receive unique opportunities that prepare them for a lifetime of leadership, adventure, and success.
