American Red Cross (ARC) Small Craft Safety Canoeing & Kayak (Oak Spring) Comments
Prerequisite: Girl Scout membership, Girl Scouting 101: GSUSA Orientation to Girl Scouting

There is a $75.00 charge for the complete course for members and $90.00 for non-member adults. ARC Small Craft Safety-Canoeing and Kayak course will provide adults with instruction in canoeing strokes, safety skills related to usage of canoes and kayaks, and how to perform simple assists and rescues. Perform a tippy test. Participants of this course will be able to instruct girls in canoe and kayak water activities.
This is a two day course: 6/21, 10am-5pm & 6/22, 8am-12pm.
Registered participants may stay overnight at the camp at no additional charge. You will be contacted after your registration for the course is received regarding your overnight stay choice. Please put all meals/food in the refrigerator. No food or beverage is provided with this course.
Please be advised that you will be in boats and will get wet. You can plan to have a good time. Cell phones should be left on shore. Although the canoeing and kayaking will NOT be strenuous, it will be long, and will require stamina. Participants must be able to swim 25 yards with and without a Personal Floatation Device (PDF) and paddle a canoe 50 yards.
If the weather is questionable, the instructor will make a decision by 8:30 am that morning whether to hold the course the scheduled day or to use the rain date. Participants will be contacted via email. If it is determined that the course should be postponed, the rain date will be June 28 & 29, 2014.
You must be 18 years old to take this course.
Park at the front gate (facing outwards). Meet at the overnight stay location in camp. This is a rain or shine activity.
Old sneakers or water shoes to be worn in the canoe
A hat and sun screen
Eye glass strap for glasses or sunglasses
Food for all meals and snacks
Water to drink
Change of clothes for each day
Proof of current first aid and CPR
Lunch and a snack
