Small Craft Safety Canoeing (Kettle Run) Comments
Prerequisite: Girl Scout membership, Girl Scouting 101: GSUSA Orientation to Girl Scouting
To determine what is required to take girls on the water, consult the Safety Activity checkpoints. There is a $29.00 charge for the complete course.
Become familiar with basic paddling skills and be more comfortable in a canoe. Learn hand paddling and canoeing safety tips. Perform a tippy test.
Special Instructions: Please wear comfortable clothes, and be prepared to get wet.
Please be advised that although the canoeing will NOT be strenuous, it will be long, and will require stamina. Cell phones should be left on shore.
Park facing outwards at Stokes Lodge.
If the weather is questionable, the instructor will make a decision by 8:30 am that morning whether to hold the course the scheduled day or to use the rain date. Participants will be contacted via email. If it is determined that the course should be postponed the rain date will be June 18, 2013
Participants must be able to swim 25 yards with and without a Personal Floatation Device (PDF) and paddle a canoe 50 yards.
Old sneakers or water shoes to be worn in the canoe
