American Red Cross Fundamentals of Canoeing (Oak Spring) Comments

Prerequisite: Girl Scout membership, Girl Scouting 101: GSUSA Orientation to Girl Scouting, Adult and Child CPR and First Aid.

You must be 18 years old to attend this course.

To determine what is required to take girls on the water, consult the Safety Activity checkpoints. There is a $90.00 charge for the complete course (Includes American Red Cross Fundamentals of Canoeing Card). The Fundamentals of Canoeing will provide adults with instruction in canoeing strokes, safety skills related to usage of canoes, and how to perform simple assists and rescues. Each participant will get a booklet and training materials. Participants of this course will be able to instruct girls in canoe water activities. There may also be the opportunity to give kayaking a try!

This is a two-day course. June 15th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and June 16th from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m.

Registered participants may stay overnight at the camp at no additional charge. You will be contacted after your registration for the course is received regarding your overnight stay choice. Please put all meals/food in the refrigerator. No food or beverage is provided with this course.

Please be advised that you will be in boats and will get wet. You can plan to have a good time. Cell phones should be left on shore.

Park at the front gate (facing outwards). Meet at the overnight stay location in camp. This is a rain or shine activity.

Please bring:
Bathing suit
Old sneakers or water shoes to be worn in the canoe
A hat and sun screen
Bug repellant
Food for all meals and snacks
A towel
Water to drink
Change of clothes for each day
