Leadership Courses

Girl Scouting 101 For all Girl Scout Volunteers

Girl Scouting 101 is the new online learning resource from GSUSA.  This replaces Online Volunteer Orientation and Online Leadership Essentials.  It is required for new leaders, co-leaders, assistant leaders, and encouraged for all interested adults.  Volunteers who have already taken Orientation and Leadership Essentials may also be interested in completing Girl Scouting 101, but we will not be requiring trained volunteers to do so.  Girl Scout activities may not happen without an approved and trained adult present, and having at least two adults in a troop with Girl Scouting 101 or Leadership Essentials ensures that activities can happen if the leader is not able to attend.  There is no face to face version of this course; it is only available online, although we will offer opportunities as needed for small groups of volunteers to view this together.

The easy-to-use Girl Scouting 101 introduces new volunteers to Girl Scouts’ inspiring national leadership experience, from Journey resources and The Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting to cookie sales, safety guidelines, and much more. Spend about 45–50 minutes learning online—whenever you can fit it into your day.

CPR/First Aid
No prerequisites
Required training for all First Aiders. A First Aider must accompany troops as indicated in the Safety Activity Checkpoints. The First Aider need not be the leader of the troop. For the convenience of our volunteers we offer courses given by the American Red Cross (ARC) American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI.) There is a $40 charge for the AHA or ASHI complete courses. If you wish to take just the AHA or ASHI CPR or just First Aid the charge is $20. The ARC full courses are $50 or $25 for just CPR or First Aid. Both the ARC and AHA course fees are payable to GSCSNJ. American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) course fees are payable to R House Health and Safety. If you wish, you may take CPR/First Aid from outside agencies. Be sure that the CPR course covers both adult and child CPR. Please consult Safety Activity Checkpoints for approved courses.
